Roads face constant punishment: traffic loads, heat, moisture, tyre pressure, shrinkage, fatigue, and surface wear. Over time, these stresses lead to cracking, rutting, deformation, water ingress, and repeated maintenance.
Glassman AR Glass Fibres by DD Solutions help improve road performance by reinforcing the mix from within. In concrete roads, they help control micro-cracks, reduce permeability, improve abrasion resistance, and support long-term durability. In bituminous roads, Glassman fibres help improve mix stability, reduce rutting, improve binder retention, and resist fatigue cracking.
For road projects, this means stronger surfaces, fewer cracks, and better lifecycle performance.
Roads & Pavements?
Road damage often begins inside the material. Small cracks form under heat, load, moisture, or repeated traffic. Once these cracks grow, water enters, the surface weakens, and maintenance costs rise. Glassman AR Glass Fibres help reduce this risk by improving internal reinforcement and crack control.
For concrete roads, Glassman fibres help improve crack resistance, abrasion performance, and long-term serviceability.
For bitumen roads, 12 mm Glassman fibres can be added to asphalt mixes to improve stiffness, reduce rutting, improve binder retention, and delay fatigue cracking. The bitumen-road study material notes that 12 mm Glassman fibres are commonly used for asphalt applications and are suitable for hot bitumen mixing temperatures often above 160°C.

Quality Standards
Glassman AR Glass Fibres are relevant to fibre-reinforced concrete and cement applications under ASTM C1666/C1666M, which covers alkali-resistant glass fibre for GFRC, fibre-reinforced concrete, and cement applications. ASTM C1116/C1116M also classifies glass fibre-reinforced concrete as Type II fibre-reinforced concrete containing alkali-resistant glass fibres.
Recommended Fibre Types
Glassman AR Glass Fibre – 16mm
Recommended for concrete roads, general pavement applications, and bituminous road mixes.
Glassman AR Glass Fibre – 12mm
Suitable for concrete pavement applications requiring stronger crack-control performance, subject to trial mix approval.
Suggested Dosage
0.5 kg to 1.0 kg per m³ of concrete
Concrete Roads / Rigid Pavements
Bituminous Roads
DBM: 0.2% to 0.4% by weight of total mix
SMA: 0.3% to 0.5% by weight of mix
BC: 0.3% to 0.4% by weight of mix
For example, at 0.5% dosage, 1 ton of bituminous mix requires approximately 5 kg of fibre.
Technical Note
Recommended dosage and fibre length should always be finalized based on the application, mix design, site conditions, and trial results.
For structural replacement of steel reinforcement, project-specific validation by a qualified engineer is required.
